A Message from the President/CEO

MAD-Headshot2Water shortages are no longer a far-off threat. In communities across the U.S. and Canada, the possibility of running short of water is becoming more real every day.

In August, seven U.S. states using Colorado River water learned they will have access to less of it than ever before to sustain their growing populations.  In the southeastern U.S., legal battles over water rights endanger supplies for cities and businesses.  In Canada, communities formerly rich in water resources are suddenly finding themselves faced with reduced water availability.

Too many cities and communities are not prepared for this possibility.  Yours may be one of them.  Communities must take steps now to make sure every drop of their water supply goes as far as possible.  Unfortunately, many communities don’t have the resources or know-how to begin.  They have never been in this situation before.

We want to make sure no community faces a crippling water shortage – this year or in five years – and we need your help to do it. Our goal is to raise $100,000 this fall to make a difference.

We have set this goal to give us the resources to reach out to communities that are most in need.  We will work hand in hand with them to design effective programs to save water and install water-efficient products in their homes and buildings.  We will reach out to community leaders and decision-makers to advocate for smart, forward-looking decisions about water management and new efficient development.  And we will improve and expand on the tools we offer to communities – like our Water Conservation Tracking Tool – to help them develop real solutions that lead to savings.

But we can’t do it without you.  Thank you for understanding the value of water and for continuing to support our important work.  Perhaps you have already benefited from our resources or worked with us to find water savings in your community or business.  Your tax-deductible gift will help us do the same for other communities that need our assistance.
