Greetings fellow AWE champions,
I hope this message finds you well. This is just a reminder of the commitment that we all made at the October 2009 AWE membership meeting in Las Vegas. As discussed, each of us is responsible for contacting three (3) groups to raise awareness about the benefits of membership in AWE.
If you are like me, you may need assistance approaching groups. For this reason, Jeffrey has created [this] page on the AWE website that contains some helpful tips for soliciting membership. On this webpage you will find:
- A general PowerPoint presentation about AWE, highlighting benefits of being a member.
- A PowerPoint presentation about the AWE water conservation tracking tool.
- AWE 2008 prospectus, providing a written overview of what it is we do.
- Testimonials from several active members about why they are involved with AWE.
- An example follow-up note for you to consider sending to your group or individual following the initial discussion.
To gain an invitation with a group, consider providing short presentation that can be incorporated into the agenda of an existing meeting. This worked for me. I contacted the president of the Georgia Water Wise Council, an active member of AWE, to secure a place on the agenda of the quarterly meeting (knowing many attendees are water utilities who are not active members). In my allotted seven minutes, I used the PowerPoint presentation on the AWE tracking tool. The overview led the way to a discussion about an AWE workshop in Georgia, and also spurred several individuals to approach me afterwards asking for more information for their individual utilities.
Let’s go out and recruit some new members! If you have any questions, please contact me or Alice Darilek at any time.
